Launch of the MIRROR Project website

  • Post category:News

MIRROR, which stands for Migration-Related Risks caused by misconceptions of Opportunities and Requirement*, will examine the perceptions of Europe and EU member countries outside of Europe. The aim of the project is to develop an integrated platform, a set of tools, as well as a systematic methodology for the comprehensive intermedia analysis of the perception of Europe by countries of origin for migration, the detection of discrepancies between perception of and reality in Europe, and the creation of awareness for the impact of such misconceptions and resulting threats. The perception of Europe has a high impact on expectations and decisions of citizens from outside Europe to migrate to EU member countries. Misperceptions and targeted misinformation campaigns can lead to security threats. It is therefore crucial to better understand how Europe is perceived abroad, detect discrepancies between image and reality and to spot instances of media manipulation.

The project brings together a multidisciplinary consortium composed of fourteen partners from seven countries from research and industry, as well as practitioners. The consortium will cooperate over the next three years with the goal to gain a better understanding of how Europe is perceived abroad and the mechanisms involved in the process. The MIRROR Project started on the 1st of June, 2019, and has a time period of three years.

MIRROR’s website, developed by one of the partners, SAIL LABS Technology, will be launched on the 31st of August and will serve as a central information hub with regards to the project and its activities. It will provide information about the project aims, its partners and most importantly, project’s progress and developments, research activities and findings. Therefore, academic communities, organizations and the general public will find information about upcoming events and project’s research findings in one place.
