The following migration-related policy recommendations are proposed for technology developers/importers/manufacturers:

  • Establish collaborations with academic partners in the design and delivery of training courses on the development and undertaking of FRIAs in multiple entities across member states and the institutions and agencies of the EU.
  • Examine different ways to help implement and deliver on the IT requirements of CIPPMAA including integration and interoperability of systems.
  • Develop AI systems bearing in mind/implementing the Fundamental Rights checklist developed in the MIRROR and CRITERIA projects.

To implement the above recommendations the following guidelines are provided:

  • Academic resources are insufficient, both in terms of quality and quantity to fully design and deliver all the training courses on the development and undertaking of FRIAs in multiple entities across member states and the institutions and agencies of the EU. This is therefore a very useful opportunity for Technology developers, importers and manufacturers, especially those of AI systems to partner effectively with academia to design and deliver such training.
  • The IT requirements of CIPPMAA including integration and interoperability of systems should be a seen as a good opportunity for involvement and growth for Technology developers, importers and manufacturers, especially those of AI systems.
  • When designing all manner of IT systems for migration-related purposes, Technology developers, importers and manufacturers, especially those of AI systems would do well to use the MIRROR and CRITERIA fundamental rights impact checklists in the creation and deployment of such systems.
